Transito (1994)
A powerful play in the style of Sartre, Giraudoux and Bunuel, by Sydney based playwright Sophia Catharios, examining the lives of Greek migrants travelling to Australia within the bowels of a modified cargo ship; classical references abound such as Antigone, Pandora and a modern day Tieresias, Photos and the inclusion of a Greek Chorus is the perfect foil to the existential drama of the central narrative. The uncertainties of confined travellers are challenged to crisis point.
A modern music drama of the first order constructed in a classical, episodic manner with Greek Chorus. Award winning-composer Arthur Giannopoulos has produced a score and songs that blend traditional melodies with modern dramatic sensibility.
